Max M. Kampelmacher was born to Jewish Austrian immigrant parents on November 7, 1920. He grew up in the Bronx, New York, attending Jewish parochial schools and the Talmudical Academy High School. Tom Darcy was born in Brokklyn, NY in 1932. He received his art education at the school of Visual Arts in New York. In 1958 he began his editorial cartooning with Newsday on Long Island.
